I’ll be performing live with J. Walter Hawkes at the second annual Long Island City Arts Open on May 18. Walter is a fellow composer who has done great, Emmy Award winning work in cartoons. He plays trombone and ukulele, I’ll be on guitar and we’ll be performing duets that will also feature the unique and unpredictable world of vintage electronics.

I’m putting together a new web store where new and old recordings will be available [New Sounds From The Lost And Found Volumes 5 and 4 are available now].

The New Sounds From The Lost And Found is a series of ambient recordings made using instruments either found on the street or salvaged from thrift stores, pawn shops, and yard sales. The first keyboard I found was a Yamaha Electone from 1971. I later found a CAT synthesizer, made in Long Island City, and most recently found a set of maracas. These instruments each have their own unique personalities and idiosyncrasies and are all part of the mix.

Among other recordings to be made available will be “The View From Here” done live in the studio with Marco Benevento (piano, electronics), Marc Friedman (bass), Kevin Norton (drums and percussion), and Joe Magistro (drums and percussion) as well as the new recording in progress, Volume 6, from the Lost and Found.

Each track uses instruments that were either salvaged from thrift stores, yard sales or pawn shops as well as the vintage Yamaha organ that I found on the street in New York City. There are also a couple tracks that were built around some beautiful electronic music improvisations by John Levin. “Look Outside” is based on one of those improvisations. “Buttons” uses an electronic chord organ that only plays major triads.
